Three Formulas, Every Situation
Whether you need maximum grip for orchestral power, balanced versatility, or smooth clarity for solo work — there's a 050 Rosin for you.
Super Sticky
$28.00
The ultimate orchestral rosin. Developed with the bass section of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Big, dark, yet clear and focused tone with plenty of punch, projection, and crisp articulation. Smooth even at extreme dynamics.
Soft
$24.50
A powerful, noble sounding rosin for all playing situations. Sticky enough for any orchestral or chamber situation without ever getting gritty or noisy. Deep, dark, and powerful tone with full clarity and resonance.
Hard
$28.00
Very smooth but still potent pull, allowing for extra clarity in sound. Recommended for solo playing where articulation and brightness matter most. Also ideal for warmer seasons and humid climates where softer rosins tend to melt.
Available for double bass, cello, viola, and violin. All products ship from the US.
Our Story
No Frills. Pure Quality.
050 Rosin was born in Groningen, the Netherlands, from a simple observation: professional musicians deserve top-quality rosin without paying a premium for fancy packaging and marketing fluff.
Founded by a professional classical and early music bassist, every cake is handcrafted with a focus on what actually matters — tone, grip, consistency, and reliability.
The "050" in the name is the area code for Groningen, a city with a rich musical heritage. The rosin is developed in collaboration with some of the finest players in Europe, including members of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
We let the rosin speak for itself — rather than the packaging.
The Science
How Rosin Creates Sound
Rosin is the essential interface between bow and string. Without it, no sound is possible. Here's the physics behind every note you play.
Rosin-coated bow hair grips the string through adhesion, pulling it aside
When tension overcomes friction, the string snaps back, creating vibration
This cycle happens hundreds of times per second, sustaining the musical tone
The formulation of rosin — its hardness, melting point, and stickiness — directly affects tone quality, bow response, and dust production. That's why different formulas exist for different playing styles, instruments, and climates. Our three formulations are carefully calibrated to cover the full range of professional needs.

What Musicians Say
Trusted by Players Worldwide
Having tried tens of products, with its tone, grip, level of dust and residue, I can honestly say that this is the best rosin ever made.
I used Kolstein Soft before, but think soft 050 rosin stays active longer on the bow. Good grip but not too dark.
We've rosined up some bows and tried the formulations here at the shop — and we found that these rosins are both very smooth and easy to use.
